100 Cold Indian Springs Road, Wayside, NJ
Kepwel Spring Water Company
In the late 1800s, this was the storage house for the bottled Cold Indian Spring Water, the product of a company that was incorporated in 1872. The water was delivered by horse and wagon and shipped by rail as far as New York City and Philadelphia. The spring water company in Wayside that operates under the name of Kepwel Spring Water is the oldest continuous water business in New Jersey.
The lake at Cold Indian Spring was run as a private picnic and swimming facility into the 1960s. The lake side setting included picnic tables, barbecue pits, dressing rooms, and a refreshment stand. It was the hub of the Wayside community in the summer.
