Truax Farm
The Truax Farm, located on Bowne Road between Cold Indian Springs Road and Asbury Avenue, was built in 1873 by Charles E. Truax. It was a working farm with livestock and extensive acreage. Mr. Truax was killed in an accident on the farm, and his wife turned the house into a "poor house" or "poor farm", where families who were destitute could stay. The property was sold in 1946. The farmhouse remains a private home, but luxury houses now sit on the cornfields and grazing pastures.
